Meet Chef Al

Backstory

Chef Al grew up in Oakland, California. His love for cooking began at age 7 years old where he spent many days along side his favorite aunt, Renee, in the kitchen. The number one rule his aunt Renee taught him was to take his time. Chef Al observed how she multi-tasked in the kitchen and still gave love to each dish.

Being multi-talented and focusing on his music career, he still continued to practice the things his aunt taught him. He started preparing meals for his little sister everyday after school, while his parents were away at work and finishing up school.

As he became older, he began to take cooking more seriously. Thus, he enrolled in the Laney College Culinary Arts program.

At Laney College he gained practical cooking experience and theoretical theory for employment as cooks and managers in multiple culinary career paths, including entrepreneurship. He earned a Culinary Arts Restaurant and Management Certificate.

Build it.

After completing his program, Chef Al decided to travel to many countries with his fiancé. While traveling, he discovered new cultures, foods and flavors.

Enthusiastic and eager, Chef Al was excited to bring all of the new found flavors back to Oakland. This was the catalyst that started his cooking business. He began to sell food plates for his community, including festivals and other Bay Area events.

After a few years of service, he and his family relocated to Los Angeles, California and started Rich Cajun.

Rich Cajun now provides private dining, and catering. Chef Al mastered the art of cajun seasoning, and sales his season blends here on the website. Rich Cajun also provides virtual cooking classes (please take a look at the calendar.)

The name Rich Cajun symbolizes his love for Seafood and Caribbean style food.

Rich Cajun is dedicated to bringing people together through food. Most of all Rich Cajun’s mission is to expand peoples palates, and help give people the confidence they need to be the best chef in their own kitchen.
